Mithridion focuses today on developing drugs for the main unmet clinical needs in Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and schizophrenia.
In AD, our focus is on improving memory and cognition, to enable patients to function better and maintain their independence, and to prevent any further irreversible loss of neurons and deterioration of mental faculties, by halting or slowing down the disease process (“disease-modifying” action).
In schizophrenia, our focus is on improving patients’ function by treating cognitive impairment that remains an unmet need for patients even well controlled on the currently approved anti-psychotic treatments. Such drugs should enable patients to enjoy a fuller life and may help them succeed in employment.
Our focus is primarily on first-in-class drugs (i.e. drugs with novel actions, never before approved for marketing). Our drug candidates have powerful effects on the central nervous system in laboratory models, and as candidate first-in-class drugs by definition are breaking new ground. Potentially they may have clinical utility and value for treating other CNS disorders.
